Calm Starts at Home: Parents Can Teach Emotional Intelligence for ADHD

Thanks to Mental Health America of Eastern Missouri, we just received information on an article on “ADHD Parenting” that many of you may be interested in.

Dealing with meltdowns and anger in a positive, proactive way can be difficult, In this article, Mark Bertin, M.D., notes that teaching emotional skills at home is important for children. He provides some concrete stops for parents to become emotional role models to their children and help create supportive environments.

Learn to recognize and deal with emotions is part of developing what he calls “emotional intelligence. This all starts with noticing our feelings as they come and go, which is not as easy as it seems.
