Mental Health First Aid Class Set for Feb. 28

A free Mental Health First Aid class will be available at the Platte County Health Department in Parkville from 8:30 a.. to 5 p.m., Feb. 28.

Mental Health First Aid provides training on how to recognize and support those with mental illness. The class is an eight-hour training course that teaches how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.

The class will include information on:

• The potential warning signs and risk factors for depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychotic disorders, and substance use disorders.

• A 5-step action plan to help an individual in crisis connect to professional care.

• Resources available to help someone with a mental health problem.
